My Only Four (Yet Delicious) Thanksgiving Recipes

Over the past few years, I’ve found a few recipes for Thanksgiving that just kind of work for me. I get requests for these recipes, and I’ve come to look forward to making them. Having said that, just because I have a few favorite recipes doesn’t mean I like to cook.

Actually, I don’t mind cooking. I don’t like dishes, so like the Pavlovian dogs, I’ve come to dislike cooking because it produces all the dishes.

Ding.

Back to cooking.

To that end, here are five four recipes I make around Thanksgiving which are becoming my thing.  I thought I had five, but turns out I’m not quite the prolific cook I thought I was.

Apple Sausage Cranberry Leek Stuffing

I mostly make this for myself so I can live on it for two days after Thanksgiving. I’d never cooked with a leek before this recipe. My advice is to clean every single layer really well, because the dirt gets really far down. They’re in the same family as an onion, so if you get a really fresh one, it might make you tear up a bit.

Also, be careful this doesn’t happen to you:

Annie’s Fruit Salsa and Cinnamon Chips

I don’t know what to say about this except this stuff is so good. I’ve used jellies/jams other than the apricot jam listed in the recipe, and it turns out just fine. I’ve also played around with honey instead of brown sugar, which also seemed to work ok.

Macaroni Grill’s Rosemary Bread

This bread y’all. The saltiness, the butter… oh it’s so good. I serve it with some olive oil and throw some salt, pepper and oregano into the oil. Be generous with the spices, too.

King Arthur Apple Pie

A few years ago Grandma Kay held an apple pie contest for her birthday (which sometimes falls on Thanksgiving, but is always NEAR Thanksgiving). I won with this recipe. It’s a simple, old fashioned apple pie recipe. I added a bit of cardamon and a bit of ginger to mine – and I was surprised she liked it but she did.
